It was formed as Harvard Instruments in 1901 at the famous Harvard University Medical School in Massachusetts. The UK organisation actually started life in London back in the 1890s and was acquired by Harvard Apparatus Inc. in 1987. Its brands include Biochrom, BTX, Scie-Plas and Hoefer. Biowave II UV/Vis Spectrophotometer
The Biowave II functions as a standard UV/Vis spectrophotometer with the addition of key life science applications being pre-programmed, which include those for nucleic acid quantification (DNA, RNA and oligionucleotides), protein assays (BCA, Biuret, Bradford and Lowry) and for cell culture density measurements. The visualisation of the nucleic acid scan is particularly useful, especially for RNA samples where impurities may be present in the 230nm region, yet may not have an adverse effect on the A260/A280 ratio. Kinetics is also possible with this extremely flexible spectrophotometer.
The Biowave II is a split beam UV/Vis Spectrophotometer (190-1100nm) with 3nm/5nm bandwidth options. It is possible to use volumes as low as 10µL with specialised quartz cells.
QuantiMate Micro-Volume Cuvette
QuantiMate is an innovative solution for accurate low volume spectroscopy, providing the simplest way for life scientists to accurately quantify micro-litre volumes of DNA and protein in almost any UV/Vis spectrophotometer. Exceptional measurement performance means that your concentrations are more accurate and more reproducible compared to some dedicated micro-volume spectrophotometers. Measurement performance will not change over time so regular calibration is not required.
With a standard 10mm cuvette shape and with two different beam height options, the QuantiMate is compatible with most UV/Vis Spectrophotometers, allowing the scientist to “upgrade” their existing instrument.

The EZ Read LED Microplate Reader delivers fast and reliable measurement performance using LEDs, coupled to high quality interference filters, for light source and wavelength selection.
