1) Transport Swabs – Amies Swabs
Amies media is a modification of Stuart’s transport media. The glycerophosphate in Stuart’s medium is replaced with inorganic phosphate buffer. Amies transport medium is widely used for the transportation of swab specimens to microbiology laboratories.
Amies swabs are suitable for the recovery of aerobes, anaerobes and fastidious organisms from patients to the lab for analysis and culture.
300281 Deltalab Sterile Aluminium and Viscose Amies Liquid Swabs
A variation of the traditional Amies media swabs where the media is presented in liquid form (in a sponge) without agar. The bendable wire and mini tip make these ideal for swabbing difficult places.
Aluminium shaft and viscose tip. Sterilised by radiation. Supplied in peel-packs.
Suitable applications include: Urethral swabbing, pathogens such as Trichomonas Vaginalis, Streptococcus Pyogenes, and Shigella Flexneri.

These sterile transport swabs with Amies media assure the viability of organisms such as:
Neisseria sp.; Haemophilus sp.; Corynebacterium sp.; Trichomonas vaginalis; Streptococcus pyogenes; Streptococcus pneumoniae; Shigella flexneri; Salmonella typhi; Brucella abortus; Enterobacterias, etc.

Suitable applications include: Swab for MRSA before operations and before admission onto antenatal/maternity wards for example (all hospitals have different protocols). For recovery of aerobes, anaerobes and fastidious organisms (wound, skin, urogenital and throat).

As above, but with charcoal: Methylene blue is replaced by pharmacological charcoal. Charcoal helps to neutralise materials that are toxic to microorganisms.

300297 Deltalab Sterile Snappable Polystyrene and Polyester Viral Swabs
Preserves viral specimens during transportation to the laboratory. Media is supplied in its liquid form, in a sponge, suitable for direct extensions on slides.
Snappable PS shaft and polyester tip. Sterilised by radiation.
Supplied in peel-packs.
Suitable applications include: Viruses such as Papiloma, Pseudorrabia, and Influenza aviar (H7N1). The addition of antimicrobial substances inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. Ideal for nasal, pharyngeal, ocular, skin, and mucus samples.
3) Dry Swabs

Typical applications for dry swabs are swabbing wounds and surfaces, inoculating broths and plated media. Dry swabs can be used for forensic sampling, environmental sampling and for clinical applications.
