Molecular Dimensions Crystallisation Screens

Now available from Medline Scientific

We’re now part of the Calibre Scientific family, which means we can support our customers with lots of new and exciting ranges of high-quality scientific products. For laboratories performing X-ray crystallography, we now offer crystallisation screens and accessories from world-leading UK manufacturer, Molecular Dimensions.

Molecular Dimensions has been manufacturing screens and reagents for protein structure determination for almost 25 years. They collaborate with organisations such as Imperial College and MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology Cambridge to deliver innovative products and solutions to scientists across the globe.

Their comprehensive offering includes crystal screens suitable for crystallisation trials of new proteins, membrane proteins, and macromolecular complexes.

We’ve highlighted just two of their popular crystal screens below. Please contact us for more information or to discuss your application: enquiries@medlinescientific.co.uk.

Product focus 1) Morpheus® protein crystallisation screens

Molecular Dimensions’ Morpheus® screens are a popular choice with protein crystallographers. Their 3D grid design, covering 96 conditions, is the outcome of extensive data mining of crystallised proteins (over 33,000 PDB entries). As a result, Morpheus® crystal screens are able to explore different chemical space than conventional screens.

Suitable for soluble and membrane proteins, the crystal screens contain low molecular weight ligands to encourage crystal formation and lattice stability.

Features:

  • Simple and effective 3D grid design covers a range of pH, PEGs, and salt additives
  • Ideal for membrane proteins (contains PEGS and low salt)
  • Incorporates 49 low molecular weight ligands to encourage crystal formation and lattice stability
  • All condition are cryo-protected
  • Created at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology Crystallisation’s Robotic Facility by Dr. Fabrice Gorrec

Formats available:

MD1-46              Morpheus®, 96 x 10ml

MD1-47              Morpheus® HT-96, 96 x 1ml

MD1-47-FX         Morpheus® FX-96 Pre-filled plate (deep well block format), 96 x 100µl

Also available: Morpheus® Optimisation reagents including the Mixes and Stock reagents. Please contact us for more information.

Product focus 2) Morpheus® Fusion crystallisation screens

Morpheus® Fusion screens are incomplete factorial screens. As such, they combine the benefits of systematic processing (grid screen design) with the wide range of sparse matrices. By removing some of the redundancy associated with crystallisation conditions, they improve the likelihood of a crystallisation hit.

Protein crystallography

Morpheus® Fusion crystallisation screens cover 96 independent conditions. Their ‘mild’ chemistry conditions* make them suitable for samples with challenging stability such as membrane proteins and large/complex molecular assemblies.

Features:

  • Incomplete factorial design covers a range of pH, precipitants, PEGs, and salt additives
  • Improves the probability of a crystallisation hit with easy optimisation
  • Suitable for soluble and membrane proteins with PEGS and polyols as main precipitants
  • 19 additive mixes which integrate all reagents from Morpheus I, plus some reagents from Morpheus II and Morpheus III
  • Morpheus® ligands promote crystal formation and lattice stability
  • All condition are cryo-protected
  • Created at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology Crystallisation’s Robotic Facility by Dr. Fabrice Gorrec
